If you don’t already know, my blog, Tiffany Trawick On Creating Your Most Fulfilling Life is a Lifestyle blog based in Christian principles. While many of my posts are aimed at gaining spiritual perspective, I want to provide you with well rounded content that helps you to shape your entire life…not just the spiritual aspects. God would have us to be successful in all of our affairs. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” (NIV) As we continue to put God first, so will our earthly affairs be made well.
As many of you know, I’m getting ready to get married!! And because my Anthony and I are just soooo in love, we decided to plan our wedding just 6 months after our engagement. Well that 6 months quickly became 4 months and let me tell you…it’s getting really really REALLY real…really fast.
While I’ve been blessed to live back at home with the parents as I finished school and even after I graduated, now I am preparing to move out and just like that my finances have become something I have to very intentionally manage. An area of my life that I viewed as unimportant has now become an immediate priority and it is forcing me to make a huge difference in how I manage my money.
This week, for the first time in my life I went through countless statements and records to track my income, expenses and upcoming expenses. Looking through my transaction history I realized three very eye-opening things:
- I waste a ton of money on things I don’t need
- Late fees are of the devil
- Overdraft fees are also of the devil
But in all seriousness; this week I finally decided to undergo the task of creating an actual budget, a task that has been in the back of my head as something I should do but haven’t done up until now. I buckled down and took the challenge; and while I was a bit disgusted at my absolute lack of frugality (not to mention outstanding bills) I have found myself in a place of financial security because I am aware of my situation and furthermore I am now able to truly manage my finances.
You cannot be secure until you decide to face what’s in disarray, then you can manage it.
If you want to Create Your Most Fulfilling Life then this is a core concept that you must grasp. Be big enough to deal with what is out of order. “For God is not a God of disorder but of peace…” 1 Cor. 14:23(NIV)
Your issue may not be money but perhaps it’s something else. Maybe it’s your career path, an unresolved argument or maybe something seemingly insignificant like the mess in your bedroom.
I challenge you to face your disorder and bring a new level of peace and control into your life.
