LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! No, we’re not talking Hollywood but the treatment

at this beauty salon will make you feel like red carpet royalty! (LCA) is a beauty salon where we make you look like a star!” says Co-owner and Stylist Rachel Black-Johnson.

Located downtown Minneapolis inside of a modest brick building is a 2 floor beauty salon and spa that services all types of hair and specializes in black/textured hair care.

Not only are the stylists at Lights Camera Action trained to make your hair look fabulous, but they have a genuine passion for the lasting health of each client’s hair in totality. “We really try to address all hair & scalp issues our clients have, we tailor the treatments according the clients issues and concerns. We do mostly natural hair but we have some clients hanging on to their relaxed tresses!”

At LCA no matter what your hair-type is, they’ve got your back. “We target the clients that have been told their hair is ‘too thick, too thin, too curly, too big, too fine, too broken, won’t grow back, can’t go straight’…” said Black-Johnson. The stylists are magicians when it comes to curing any problems you may be having with your hair. They are able to do this by constantly treating a variety of issues through strategic techniques, top-of-the-line products and continuous service.

One of the services LCA has become known for is the Keratin Treatment. This is a natural relaxation option for all types of hair, especially hair that is more coarse or textured. “I am a Keratin Complex Educator. I educate other salons and stylists on our Natural Keratin Smoothing Treatments…” The Keratin is image4a two appointment treatment that results in maximum shine, smoothness and natural movement of the hair without the harsh effects of chemical use. The results are unbelievably transforming. “We believe in hair treatments such as the Keratin treatment for smoothing and fortify the hair,” said Black-Johnson.

Being in a metro-area, it is not hard to find a place to sit down and get your hair done. It is, however, not so easy to find a comfortable location that treats you with the utmost care and respect and does not rush you around and treat you as though you are just a number. “Unlike other salons, our mission is to SEEK, RETAIN, SERVE AND SATISFY our clients, we treat them like family and there is a lot of love in our salon,” says Black-Johnson.

At LCA there are two floors of styling stations to fit any of your hair needs. The atmosphere is clean and family friendly, a place where mothers can bring their daughters and not have to worry about profanity or “drama” as it is simply not tolerated.

The inviting atmosphere is definitely a testament to the faith of Rachel and Therian Johnson. “God provided us with everything we needed and He still does. It was quite a faith journey for the both of us because we literally only had only a plan and no money, nothing else but a vision. Money came to us at exactly the right times and places. We literally got a check in the mail the Friday before we needed to pay for the deposit on our space on Monday morning,” the couple built and decorated the entire salon and has been in business now for an impressive 9 years! “My husband and I run the business together as well as our sons who pitch in when they can too.”

This family run business has been a true success in the heart of our city, and they don’t plan on quitting any time soon as they have much advancement planned, “We are changing our business model as well as our space. We are adding massage services, lash extensions, new hair services, (and) launching our new mobile booking app… We are always looking for ways innovate with our techniques and technology.”

Rachel Black-Johnson has always been a hard worker and her extreme discipline and work-ethic is shown in everything that she does. “My other passion is singing and songwriting. I have put out an album, performed all over the world with all sorts of artists.” Rachel Black is also a web and graphic designer and incorporates these skills in the promotion of her own endeavors.

I asked this ambitious spirit what advice she would give other’s that are pursuing their dreams whether it be entrepreneurship, art, or whatever one’s dream may be, she responded “…PLAN your WORK and then WORK your PLAN! Don’t give up, remember your setback is your setup for your COMEBACK! Every Problem is an Opportunity…” Genuine words as they come from a true source of experience.
