"If you won't push and promote yourself, not only will others not promote you either, but they won't be interested. You MUST be the catalyst of your own success."
Do you want to know a secret? I have NO idea what I’m doing!!! There is a ton of work that goes into making my website look presentable and creating interesting content on a regular basis. But even though it’s a lot of work, it is doable…even for you! If you have a passion to start your own website or blog I would strongly recommend you go ahead and do it. However, I do understand it may appear to be a daunting task…If you are a little hesitant, here are 5 tips to encourage you to dump your fear and go for it!
1. Don’t stress about knowing all of the details before you start your project:
The only thing that you NEED to know is that you have a passion for what you’re doing; everything else will follow. There are a lot of questions that I still have about the direction that I want to go in for my own website, but the key is to keep moving. As long as you keep progressing you will find the answers along the way.
2. Start your website with the mindset that it’s a personal project:
Do it for fun, for passion or like me, for practice… Don’t Stress About It and give yourself room to learn-as-you-go. When you remind yourself that your endeavors are your own personal project, you give yourself room to make mistakes and find solutions to fix them. This is how you develop into a smart and productive creator.
3. Ask others for help:
Soon I will write a blog post about the first time I started a business. One of the biggest mistakes I made when I started my first business in 2012 was trying to take care of all of the duties on my own. With TiffanyTrawick.com and its related projects, I have worked in a new way, I’ve already reached out to so many people for resources and support. Even little things like having my boyfriend proofread my blog posts makes the biggest difference in the world!!
4. Plan! Plan! Plan!:
See my blog post Write the Vision and Make it Plain. Nothing has benefitted me more in my professional life than learning to plan ahead. It makes all the difference in the world, especially when it comes to launching a project. Create a task list, and think of each task as a baby step that gets you closer to where you want to go.
5. Believe in yourself:
I know this sounds super cliche but I honestly think this is probably one of the most important tips that I can offer you. If you don’t believe in the work that you put out there, no one else will. If you are not enthusiastic about your art or your business why would someone else be? If you won’t push and promote yourself, not only will others not promote you either, but they won’t be interested. You MUST be the catalyst of your own success.
I really hope that these tips were helpful. Do you have specific questions about starting a blog, website or business? Please comment below!
